WE HAVE CREATED A TWO-WAY UNIVERSITY PATHWAY PROGRAM 'OUT BUSH'
At Wuyagiba, In South East Arnhem land, Northern Territory
Two-way learning means learning and exchange of non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal knowledge. We focus on delivering two-way 1st year University courses for local Aboriginal students. We also deliver workplace skill development courses for our staff through CDU. In the longer term, we hope to open these courses up to people from outside the Arnhem Land region.
Wuyagiba is a small homeland located between the main Aboriginal communities of south east Arnhem Land, Ngukurr and Numbulwar.
We provide on-Country University education for remote living Aboriginal students of Arnhem Land.
THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN AUSTRALIA
Wuyagiba Study Hub delivers cultural and academic courses on-Country. The cultural curriculum was designed and is delivered by local Elders. The academic curriculum is adapted from Macquarie University 1st year Uni subjects and is taught by University lecturers on-Country.
BACKED BY THE COMMUNITY
The Wuyagiba Study Hub has widespread support from communities and organisations of south east Arnhem Land and beyond.
MAKING THE DREAM A REALITY
We have built “glamping” style tents for our classroom, students dorms and staff accommodation. All students and staff live together at Wuyagiba during the courses.
This program has reinvigorated Wuyagiba outstation and created on-Country employment opportunities for local staff.
